Sequins + Tartan + Leather

Fashion formula: sequins tartan leather

I admitted last week that I’m having all the feelings about my plaid shirt from Madewell. (Seriously, I can’t stop wearing it. It’s getting weird.) But it turns out my obsession extends to pretty much all things plaid. Or tartan, depending on what country you’re in. I’ve discovered that it’s an especially fun print to pair with leather and sequins. The result is an unexpected mix of classic and cool – and it’s a trio that’s definitely made for a day-to-night transition.

Look 1

glitter loafers, tartan coat

I’ve been searching for the perfect leather trousers and this pair looks like a pretty good candidate. They go perfectly with this GORGE coat from Gap and these fancy glitter loafers. (Not sequins, I know. But close enough.) I’d wear this outfit to work – though I’d probably have to add a grey T-shirt or jumper into the mix because, you know, nudity.

Sophie mermaid glitter loafers, J.Crew, £138
Festive plaid car coat, Gap, £99.95
Jet leather trousers, French Connection, £195

Look 2

sequin bomber jacket, plaid shirt, leather skirt

Tucked into this fab pleated skirt, this flannel shirt goes from casual weekend-wear to totally work appropriate. Then throw on this sequin bomber jacket to pull it into party mode. I’d add simple black heels and wear this for date night. (Let’s be honest, in real life I’d obviously wear this with my Madewell shirt. But for variety’s sake, I used this Gap version. Also, it’s cheaper.)

Mixed knit sequinned bomber jacket, Zara, £69.99
Fitted boyfriend plaid Oxford shirt, Gap, £29.95
Pleated coated skirt, Jigsaw, £139

Look 3

sequin sweatshirt, plaid skirt, patent over-the-knee boots

This look is kind of Pat Benetar meets 1998 Britney Spears meets Dominatrix – and for some reason I like it. After being solely focused on ankle boots for a few seasons, I’m lusting after these over-the-knee statement-makers. I’d wear them with pretty much everything (if I could afford to buy them), but I may as well start with this quirky combo.

Religion piston jumper with oversized sequin cross, Asos, £70
Ted Baker checked flippy skirt, John Lewis, £139
Fifo black patent boots, Stuart Weitzman, £498

Look 4

sequin shorts, tartan t-shirt, leather jacket

I wore an outfit kinda like this to a friend’s birthday party a few weeks ago, and foolishly forgot to snap a pic. But I got loads of compliments, so I’ll just go ahead and assume it was a winner. It’s the perfect choice for a boozy night out because sequin shorts just make everything awesome. (Plus, the tee is only 10 quid, so I don’t have to stress when I inevitably spill red wine down the front. Also, it’s red – so maybe the red wine won’t even show up. White wine definitely won’t show up… okay, I’m good, nevermind.)

Embellished beaded shorts, Topshop, £42
Red tartan print T-shirt, River Island, £10
Short leather jacket, Zara, £129

Which outfit would you wear? Should I bite the bullet and buy any of these pieces? Let me know in the comments!
