This past weekend featured three of my favourite things: sunshine, wine and quality hang-time with my girlfriends. There was also Mexican food, whisky and a punting guide who looks like Aladdin – but that’s for another post.
So what is this mystical place that brought together so many of life’s delicacies? Cambridge – our destination for a low-key, well-behaved (cough, cough… stick to the party line!) hen do.
To kick off the celebrations in honour of the lovely bride-to-be, we visited the Chilford Hall for a tour of the vineyards and a wine tasting. We wandered around the grounds, soaked up the sunshine and toasted the lady of the hour whilst trying to sound reasonably knowledgeable about oaky flavours and citrus undertones.
For my day of wining and sunning, I wore a navy polo-neck dress from ASOS, my Nike trainers, a gold Madewell necklace (that I wear pretty much all the time), mirrored Ray-Bans and a striped silk shirt from Zara tied around my waist.
I’m a big fan of the old tie-waist partly because it reminds me of tying bulky sweatshirts around my waist as a kid in the ’80s – but also because it’s a quick way to change up your look. It can add definition to a loose-fitting dress or add a bit of extra length and coverage to a shorter, body-con style. Plus, it adds that relaxed, easy, not-too-fussed vibe. Job done!
Here are a few more gorge scenic shots. Definitely will be back…
